Act, Think, Dress Like a (Bad Ass) Lady

Bianca Jagger. Marlene Dietrich. Evan Rachel Wood. The list of women who can rock a tux is endless. And I'm here to tell you why the "lady tux" is your new BFF.

I'm a big fan of the school of thought that you can still be a lady in a "man's world". I work in an industry that has long been just a wee bit sexist (see Mad Men for reference). It's hard to find women friends because it's either you're a part of the gossip-y culture or you just eschew all your female peers and wedge yourself in the boy's club. Well, I say, just like that taco commercial, "Por que no las dos?" Why can't you be a strong woman who has the respect of her peers (of both sexes) AND still be yourself? I really pride myself on my work ethic and my non-nonsense attitude and I don't think I should have to compromise my interests because of what other people may think. I fully realize that my love of clothes, shoes, and lipstick seems shallow, but I'll be damned if someone thinks I'm less intelligent/serious about my work than them because of it. *steps off soapbox* Ok, back to the lady tux.

I say all of this because this particular outfit makes me feel like my best self, like I have the best of both worlds. I feel powerful, respected, and also a little sexy. Ladies, it is NOT a crime to think you look sexy. Embrace that. The lady tux is like the old adage "anything you can do, I can do better". Like, "Oh yeah? A suit is for men? Well, watch me take your tux, add in some fierce shoes and lipstick, and take over the damn world". This is my power outfit, and I know it can be yours too.
