Mom Sweaters for Life

Ever since were were dating, my now-husband, David, likes to comment on what I wear. Most of the time, it's a compliment, but sometimes he likes to throw in some good-natured ribbing. I can handle it because I know some of the pieces in my wardrobe are a little bit outlandish, but I like it that way. I told him yesterday that I like "conversation pieces", things that really catch my eye and that I know I would go up to and tell someone I love if I saw it in public. Our style is totally opposite in that regard: David wears a lot of muted colors and his favorite things to splurge on are sunglasses and sneakers; I, on the other hand, like busy patterns and pops of bright color and I don't really splurge on accessories, meaning that I have more purses/shoes/sunglasses than necessary because I always find them on the cheap.
The first time I wore today's sweater, David said, "What are you wearing? Is that a mom sweater?" Now, I know some pretty darn stylish moms out there, so I told him that that totally backfired. I think he took back what he said after I sat on the couch and he laid his head in my lap (our usual TV watching position) and said I was so comfy and cozy. See? Style and function, people. This Lauren Ralph Lauren sweater caught my eye at Savers and I knew this would be a perfectly warm and fashionable addition to my closet. I love the cool pastel colors against the tan knit background; it is totally different from anything else that I own. I wore this with my Tommy Hilfiger skinny jeans, asparagus Converse high tops (yes, that is the real color name), and my favorite silver snake earrings and I was ready for Monday.
So, although we don't see eye to eye on clothes, that's what makes my relationship with my husband fun. We try not to take those things too seriously, especially because that would be really strange if he bought those pink overalls that I've been eyeing up at Primark....
